From Ho-Hum, To Holiday Fun!
Easy games and activities to add to your family holiday gatherings.
By Kit Bennett, AmazingMoms.com

Many of us recall the holiday events and family gatherings of our youth,
that seemed to last forever. Adults engaged in conversation that was
over our heads, or we simply weren’t interested.
Relatives asking us about school and our current activities. We found
ourselves wishing we’d recorded the responses to spare us the
repetition. Unless the occasion included gifts,
to be honest, we were
BORED STIFF!
This holiday season, fill your house with fun, engaging activities that
will delight kids
and adults alike, encourage a playful spirit, and produce memorable
moments for
your children. I’ve provided a few simple ideas to get you started.
“tweak” them to your family’s particular style.
Don’t forget to enlist
your kid’s help with the planning and preparations.
Provide plain paper placemats from the party store; crayons, markers
and
stickers.
Assign each guest to make a placemat for another guest.
Place a Scrabble board on a coffee table. Fill a bowl with the game
pieces
(I suggest purchasing extras). Start with one theme related word
such as
“TURKEY” or “STOCKING”.
Keep the board set-up for guests to add words throughout the day.
Encourage special interactions by placing a box, trunk or basket of
family photos and photo albums in a central location. Older relatives
will share stories with the children and kids will gather to giggle at
their funny looking parents.
Make a holiday collage using miscellaneous craft supplies, photos, glue,
magazines etc.
Provide a large piece of poster board and place all of
the items at card
table, for use during the day.
Host a Spoons, Tiddly-Winks or Dominoes tournament. Winners earns a
silly
trophy to keep until next year. When the tournament is played again.
Our
family plays a roaring game of “Multiple Way Solitaire” at almost
every
gathering.
Purchase simple craft kits for making holiday decorations or ornaments.
