Easy Party Planning Tip...
If the movie is still playing in theaters, treat a small group of children to
a showing, and then return home for a snack, cake, and a simple game
or craft activity. There is no need for  elaborate party area decorations,
a festively decorated party table will do.

KUNG FU PANDA BIRTHDAY PARTY DECORATIONS
If you are hosting the party at home, or a rented party space these ideas
will help get your creative juices flowing.

Create the enchanted Jade Palace or the beautiful Valley of Peace using plants, rich colored fabric, movie or travel posters and origami paper cranes and Chinese paper lanterns. Drape the fabric over existing furniture, hang the cranes and lanterns (lantern instructions below) from the ceiling and place posters on the wall. The Kung Fu Panda Movie has some wonderful print and fold activities and coloring sheets, that will help you fashion a fancy party table...Kung Fu Panda Movie Site >>

Set a festive birthday table with matching Kung Fu panda party supplies. Create a centerpiece using a large paper Chinese food container to hold a weighted balloon bouquet. Lay strips of red and gold streamers down the center of the table. Then place your centerpiece in the middle.
Lastly, scatter un-wrapped fortune cookies, or small paper cranes
around the table for added flare.

KUNG FU PANDA BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES AND ACTIVITIES
A few of these games require a larger space or yard. However, they can
be adapted and we've also provided suggestions for small party areas.

A Special Welcome...

Excited guests will know they've arrived at a fun-filled birthday party
when you greet them using one or two of these suggestions.

Use the Internet to find and print guest names in Chinese.
Then glue them onto pieces of construction paper (about 3x5).
Or use the animals from the movie. Every character has their own fighting style; monkey, mantis, tiger etc...
Make two holes in the card with a hole punch and attach a length of yarn to create a necklace and place it around the guests neck as they arrive.

Lace these personalized bag tags with an exclusive design,
to a length of lanyard and present one to each child upon arrival.

Provide coloring sheets and crayons fir the children to use as they arrive
and settle in. The Kung Fu Panda website has some fabulous coloring and activity sheets you can print out for free...find them here >>

Kung Fu Relay Race

Every good martial artist must me agile and fast!
Provide one over-sized GI (uniform), belt and maybe another piece of gear
for each team. The players take turns putting the GI on, then go through an obstacle course - jumping, rolling etc. , run back to their team, remove the GI and the next player takes a turn. The first team to complete the race wins.
You can play this game without the GI as well. By simply having the kids
go through an agility obstacle course using tires, boards to walk across, small trampolines, yoga mats of tumbling etc.

Breaking Boards
Although only skilled Kung Fu artists can actually break boards,
using balsa wood will make this possible for young children.
Arrange a board breaking contest with very thin balsa wood boards.
One or two adults should hold the board that the child will be braking.
Don't forget to kia...The kia is a loud yell that is shouted at the same
moment a strike is executed, or in this case the board is broken.
Cut plenty of boards, because the kids will want to take several turns.

How High?
Have a kicking contest, where the kids compete for the highest kick.

Sword Skills
Make or purchase kid-friendly foam or cardboard swords.
Each child will get a sword and a balloon. The object of the game is to keep the balloon from hitting the ground without using hands - swords only.
Play the movie soundtrack while the children play.

A Special Guest
Hire an advanced teen-age or adult martial arts student
to come and give a demonstration. Teenagers love the extra cash.

Old to New
Adapt traditional party games to suit your Kung Fu Panda party theme.
It's easy with a bit on ingenuity.

"Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Donkey" can be transformed to
Pin the tail on the Tiger or the Sword on the Panda. An artistic teen
would love to earn some cash for drawing the game board.

Providing the leader of a game with a sash to tie around their waste,
can easily transform Simon Says, to Master Oomgay Says, or instead of
the playground game, Mother May I? how about Master Shifu May I?

Kit's Party tip
Are you concerned about the size of your party space?
Call a local Martial Arts School. They often host parties on Saturdays and Sundays. You provide the party supplies, cake and favors, and they provide a safe environment for active games., Often they'll even give a demonstration or mini-lesson. Some schools even cut the cake with a sword! Very impressive!

KUNG FU PANDA PARTY CRAFTS
Include a craft at the  birthday party for extra fun and entertainment.
Be sure all of your supplies are prepared beforehand and assign an adult helper or two to make the job easier.

Sacred Peach Blossom Tree

The children will be making their own Peach Tree of Wisdom, just like the one that Great Master Oogway planted many years ago!

You'll Need:
brown & white construction paper, small sponge pieces, pink paint,
glue sticks
Before the party cut tree trunks from the brown paper.
The children will glue the tree to the white paper. Then using small cut sponge pieces and light pink paint dab to make make the tree blossoms. Older children may be able to cut the tree trunks by themselves.
Variation: add a mystical sparkle to the trees by sprinkling a touch of very fine polyester glitter on the blooms while they are still wet.

Colorful Chinese Lanterns

Make some before the party to include in your decorations. Yours will inspire your guests to be creative while making their own during the party.

You’ll need several different colors of 8.5” x 11” paper, glue, scissors and markers or theme-related stickers.
To Make:
Invite your guests to decorate one side of a sheet of construction paper. When finished, fold each sheet in half lengthwise. Cut 3-inch slits into the fold, parallel to the short edges. Start about an inch from one edge and continue making slits along the length of the paper, leaving 1/2 inch between each slit.

When the cutting is complete, unfold the paper and glue the short edges together to form a cylinder - see image above (The folded edge will point outward in the middle.) Note that the cut strips will make the folded edge “fan” out to look like a Chinese lantern. Finish the lanterns by gluing a paper handle to the top of each one. Hang and enjoy!

No-Mess Party Craft
Want to avoid paint and glue?
How about a beading project with red, gold and jade green colored
pony beads along with black lanyard beading cord.

Party Favors
Treat your party guests to a special "thank you".

Fill empty Chinese food to-go containers or this matching Kung fu Panda Party favor box with stickers, coloring sheets and crayons, tattoos,
fruit snacks, rice candy and fortune cookies.

Kung Fu Panda Birthday Cake Ideas
Just a few ideas to get your started.

Dragon Cupcake - Our favorite!
Children will love these magical dragons for their birthday party!
Although our dragon is red you can change it to green by using
green food color and gum drops.
mushu dragon cupcake
You'll Need:
cupcakes, red cupcake liners, red gumdrops (large and small),
yellow fruit-by-the foot or fruit rollups, white chocolate chips,
black decorator frosting, red frosting

Begin with a batch of cupcakes frosted a bright red.
A food color paste produces a more vibrant color tone.
For each cupcake, slice a large and small red gumdrop in half. Press the tip of a white chocolate chip into the cut surface of the large halves, near the center of the bottom edge to make the eyes. Press the "dragon eyes" into the frosting around the center of the cupcake. Then press the small gumdrop halves into the front of the cupcake (nose). Cut thin strips of fruit roll-up and place on the sides of the gum-drop "nose".
Cupcakes displayed using a cupcake stand will make a fabulous
table centerpiece.

Good Fortune Cupcakes - Super Easy!
Frost cupcakes with red or jade green frosting. Top each cupcake with
an unwrapped fortune cookie.
